Features of Carbonless Paper/NCR Paper

Carbon-free paper is coated with two different chemicals: CF or also known as a front coating, and CB or back coating. The chemicals are kept in tiny capsules and released when the capsules break due to the pressure of a pen or printer.

When the CF and CB chemicals interact, the CF chemicals darken, causing the image to appear on the CF surface of the paper. One obvious way to distinguish between CF and CB chemicals is that the image appears only on the front of the paper, so there is no image on the back of any paper. Since this paper can produce images without copying, it is called "carbon-free paper".
